Hat Making Workshops

Fascinator Workshop

This 2 1/2 hour workshop is to design and create a simple, elegant, loop fascinator on a headband. We teach you skills used to work with sinamay, and how to add trimmings such as feathers. You will leave the workshop with a loop fascinator, perfect to wear to a wedding or other special occasion. We have lots of colours available, if you require a specific colour to match or compliment your outfit please let us know in advance. Whilst this is a hand stitched fascinator, and sewing skills are required, these can be taught during the lesson.

£70 – 2.5 hours

Headpiece Workshop

The headpiece workshop is a perfect short introduction to those who wish to learn the basic skills of traditional millinery.

During this 4 hour workshop we teach you how to make a sinamay headpiece on a headband or comb, suitable for a special occasion, including weddings, or a day at the races.

This lesson involves designing and cutting your own pattern for a base, wiring and edging the base, and designing and creating a decoration using sinamay, feathers or other trimmings.

£100 – 4 hours

The Cloche Workshop

Learn how to make a 1920’s wool felt cloche hat to your own design and the colour of your choice.

During this workshop you will learn how to block, design and hand stitch your own creation and complete a classic cloche using traditional millinery techniques and skills.

In this workshop the decoration may be made using the same felt if there is sufficient left once the hat has been cut into shape. There is also a variety of adornments available to complete your decorations, these include vintage buttons.

Whilst this hat can be  made in one day, if possible blocking the hat in advance is preferable to ensure that the felt is completely dry.

All our cloches are made from 100% pure wool felt. There is a fairly wide selection of colours available.

£130 – 1 full day (6 hours)

Sinamay 1 Day Workshop

This is an excellent one day introduction to basic traditional millinery techniques, using sinamay which is the most commonly used material for occasion hats. During the course of this workshop you will discover how versatile sinamay is. Skills covered will include making bias strips, leaves, flowers (including simple roses and lilies). Once these skills have been learnt, depending on time, you will either make a headpiece or fascinator. Other trimmings, including millinery netting can be included within your decoration.

The skills you will learn on the day will also enable you to decorate pre-made hat shapes and bases.

Sewing skills preferred, but not required if you are keen to learn.
